How To Draw Custom Sprites

This is the guide I wrote for those that might want to try their hands and making sprites. Also not I didnot go into deep detail with this sprite do to lack of time. And I know I messed up on the front view. Hes hair looks like crap

The program I am useing which might suprise some of you is the program that comes with windows. PAINT SHOP!

now if you know how to us paintshop correctly you will find out it is quite usefull for easy things such as this. All your really need to know is the basic of shadeing {making color darker and lighter}.

Okay not step one is to do your basic layout. I usally use the brush that you see selected sinces its a 2x2 pixle brush. Not to small not to large.

Now that you have your layout you must decide on the color of the skin for your sprite. Im going to make him Peach color. Now most of you dont know where to get the peach color from. To get it go to the light brown color and double click it you will get this box.

From this box you click Define Custom Colors>> this will bring up another box which looks like this.

now you will take the shading bar which is the bar on the right side and pull it up till you find your color of peach. fill your skins in with this color. Like so

Now double click again on the light brown which is not peach and make it a few shades darker and fill in the outter lines around the body such as so. **** NOTE : A quick way to do this is use the eraser. Right click on the color you want to make it and left click on the color you want to change. Now when you Right click on the color of the guy it will change it to the correct color. Notice the color in the selected colors below. ****

Now is the time for the eyes. First select the brush we selected before {the 2x2 brush}. And we start of with White. Like So. this is at veiw 8x

Now depending on the color you want the eyes what color you use. Im going to use the defult light blue and you stick it like so.

now just as you did earlyer pull up the shading bar on the color you used and go a bit lighter then place like so.

next is to get even a lighter shade and place them in the last remanding spot to make it a square. Like so.

Now is the hair. Im going to use a shade of brown which I found by double clicking the dark brown and useing a shade. First with the darkes color in the hair make an outline with that color. Heres mine.

Now with a slightly lighter shade do the next inner light like so.

Next with a lighter shade to do the next inner like so.

Now last time with a lighter shade like so.

There you go you have created a 32x64 naked sprite. If you wish to go in more detail just use a smaller brush. I will add Clothing and Items later.

*** NOTE: I dont care what you do with this sprite use it blow it up I dont care. Just dont make a mess ...... ***
